Team collaboration software from Groove Networks is a different kind of collaboration solution

Team-based work is becoming more common, as the collaborative structure can increase productivity. When you choose to work in teams, however, your technology needs to be up-to-date. So much work is done on computers, and all members need to have access to all information. Team collaboration software enables team members to work in one space with much less hassle.

Determining which collaborative software program is right for you is dependent on what kind of collaboration you do. If you work in a team that includes out of house members, your needs are different from those whose members are all in-house. Groove Networks offers a collaboration program that is well suited to teams who share an office building. Its peer-to-peer functionality allows documents and other group data to be stored on individual computers, as opposed to a centralized server.

The program, Groove Virtual Office, involves a large download and the need for 60MB free on the hard-drive for data storage. However, the program allows you to create virtual workspaces from templates. You and your team can edit and manage a document or project from your different computers. Voice over IP and text chat can also be integrated into the workspace.

Unlike other collaboration programs, Groove Virtual Office doesn't require a monthly maintenance fee or other reoccurring charges. One payment allows you unlimited collaboration with your team. However, you miss some other features, like the ability to hold a virtual meeting online.

The software does take some getting used to, so users need to be PC-literate and may required additional training in order to feel comfortable using it. Once past the learning curve, though, a team will enjoy the ability to easily manage their collaborative activities in a contained and secure workspace.
