Why online web conferencing is growing and expanding

One only has to look at the increase in web conferencing
service providers to realize that there has been a definite
increase in the demand for such a product. Once there were
only a couple of options, but now selecting solutions
involves more choice and more affordability. But what
exactly is driving the growth of online web conferencing
providers?
The Internet has become a staple in so many workplaces.
People are very comfortable in using the web, and because of
this they are more likely to use web based conferencing.
This method of communicating has been around for almost ten
years now, and in that time, features have become easier to
use and more helpful -- such as the ability to share
PowerPoint presentations.
The
E-Commerce Times points out that another factor driving
the growth of web conferencing is the idea of convergence.
Instant messaging and audio and/or video integration has
made meeting online much more dynamic and interactive.
Slowly, online meetings are beginning to replicate the
face-to-face meeting experience, thus increasing
productivity.
Frost &
Sullivan, a consulting firm, reports that increased
awareness of the availability of web conferencing
technologies have also driven its growth. Exposure and
positive experiences with these tools by web meeting
participants can influence their awareness and acceptance of
the technology. This can in turn create a viral marketing or
"word of mouth" promotional effect that contributes to the
growth of users relying on online meetings to boost their
sales leads or project collaboration.
The American workplace is changing. Frost & Sullivan also
cite the increasing number of remote workers as another
reason that web conferencing is becoming more popular. As
companies become more linked by the Internet and as
technology improves, it can only be believed that web
conferencing is going to continue to grow.
