Keys to effective business presentations online

Giving a presentation in a conference room setting isn't
unfamiliar territory to most people. More and more often,
though, you may be called upon to bring that skill set into
the online world. Advances in web conferencing software have
made it possible to deliver your presentation over the
Internet. You know how to present in front of a live
audience, but do you know what makes for effective business
presentations online?
There's one key that stays the same no matter what kind
of business presentation you're a part of -- preparation.
While the online setting might feel a little more relaxed
because participants are in remote locations, the need to
give information or come to agreement is still as important.
Preparing for an effective online presentation is a
little different, however. If you're sending out links as
part of your presentation, you want to make sure they work.
PowerPoint is an excellent tool to use for your
presentation, but remember computer screens are smaller than
projection screens, so your color choices should reflect the
smaller area.
One way to make your online presentation truly engaging
is to integrate audio or video into the presentation. For
sales and marketing presentations, this is a great format
for demonstrating more about the product or service you're
pitching. It also helps to keep audience attention, which is
important as computers may not be as engaging as a speaker.
View your slideshow ahead of time on your own computer to
ensure that it translates well to the smaller screen. Being
aware of how to slow down or skip slides which can help you
tailor your online presentation to your audience's needs.
This also allows you to field questions as needed.
Finally, encouraging questions at the conclusion shows
that you're not hindered by the online format and the
feedback can help you to improve future presentations.
