Peer to peer file sharing programs that use private versus public networks

Fire sharing is about more than music and movies. While these activities are at the forefront of any media attention paid to file sharing, peer to peer file sharing programs can be used for much more. Using private networks instead of public often involves sharing a different type of material. In addition, using a private network has distinct advantages over using a public one.

What is the difference between public and private networks? PC Magazine explains it very well -- with a private network, you're intentionally sharing with people you know instead of sharing your files with a huge public network of anonymous users. You're aware of what you're sharing and when it occurs with a private P2P file sharing program. It's a secure way to share with a group of friends or even in a workplace setting.

A private network is more useful for sharing photos and files from common workplace applications because it's much more secure than a public network. When it comes to sharing music files, however, it becomes a much more ambiguous argument. Some programs allow audio streaming but not file transfer and avoid violating copyright regulations by only allowing streaming to a small group.

Not all private programs require you to pay for their services, either. You can share your photos and documents legally and securely, as these programs utilize data encryption, for free. Additionally, spyware and adware concerns are much less of a problem on a private network. Your computer and files are safer when using this type of program.
