Web Based File Sharing
Web based file sharing alleviates the burden of e-mailing large attachments
December 7, 2005

If you've ever tried to send a colleague an important
e-mail attachment, only to be told that your attachment was
too large, you can understand the importance of web based
file sharing. This form of data sharing that utilizes file
transfers allows you send a large file without worrying
about the size of the file. What's more, you can enjoy such
a service free of charge, depending on the features you
need.
Sending a large file -- such as those over one megabyte
in size -- can be a slow process for both you and the person
to whom you're sending it to. With a web based file
transfer, you have much more freedom to send large
attachments. The free service from
Dropload allows you to
send a file up to 100 MB in size. They also perform a virus
scan on your file.
Dropload is ideal for those who use file transferring on
a limited basis. You can send large files to one person at a
time. Those who find themselves needing this service more
often may prefer a paid service that offers features like
encryption, the ability to send out to multiple recipients,
and a larger maximum file size.
LeapFILE,
SendThisFile and
YouSendIt are also good choices for those looking for more
complex file transfer options. You can read an excellent
side-by-side overview of all four of these file transfer
services in an article entitled "How to Send Large Files
without Email: Best Services Online" by Robin Good.
Transferring files via the web is easy and convenient.
The files are stored on the server of your service provider,
and the recipient is given a link to follow to pick up the
file. You can send any sort of document, from pictures to
PDFs without ever having to worry about slow or disallowed
e-mail transfers.
