Placeware became Microsoft Office Live Meeting in 2003

In 2003, Microsoft made an important acquisition in the web conferencing world. In order to expand their services and broaden what they can offer to clients, they acquired a company that already had made a name for itself in the web conferencing marketplace. The company, Placeware, is now under Microsoft's control. It's been renamed and offers even more to customers.

Microsoft Office Live Meeting is the result of Microsoft's efforts. Microsoft took a successful web conferencing solution and set to refine and expand services instead of building from the ground up. The original solution was designed to aid groups of all sizes in hosting web meetings, which made the acquisition desirable for Microsoft.

The current Live Meeting product demonstrates Microsoft's understanding of customer needs. The 2005 edition offers many improvements over the 2003 product. The interactive tools especially have seen changes. Live Meeting comes with a Mood Indicator and a real-time polling feature, so you can keep your meeting well on track.

One of the greatest benefits from the acquisition is that Live Meeting integrates into the Microsoft Office suite. You can now initiate meetings from the programs you trust with company data. Additionally, the 2005 Live Meeting offers better security, audio streaming, improved PowerPoint viewing, and document viewing. The program has become increasingly interactive and intuitive, with its helpful features.

Microsoft's acquisition and subsequent creation of the Live Meeting software has led to a very convenient program. Your web meeting software works seamlessly with a group of applications you already use.
