Integrating technology in the classroom makes learning more interactive and dynamic

As online communication technologies become more affordable and available, its uses have broadened. One particularly useful application for web conferencing tools and applications has been integrating technology in the classroom. The creation of a virtual classroom space can positively benefit the learning experience both for students and teachers.

A recent Campus Technology article by Judith V. Boettcher addresses these issues. Synchronous learning and collaboration technologies create an interactive environment for students. Text chatting allows for a question and answer environment that is less intimidating than the physical classroom. This provides a more collaborative situation than an asynchronous tool like a message board or forum.

The tools available for synchronous education can make a difference in the level of student and teacher interaction. Videoconferencing can make it feel more like the traditional classroom, while audio conference integration allows for more seamless interactivity. Many colleges and universities that hold online classes are seeking out these technologies more and more, so that the learning experience is fuller and richer.

Asynchronous online learning has been boosting classroom activities in recent years. Now through synchronous education tools, learning online can be just as collaborative and interactive, but with even greater efficiency. More importantly, the real-time nature of presenting, discussing, and learning online can help online learners to feel like they are spontaneously and naturally learning together.

Synchronous tools also allow the instructor to pass the teaching torch onto the students through discussions. The creation of virtual classrooms through this technological integration opens up many learning possibilities for students in physical and online courses.
